There’s something about rain that turns the world into a memory machine
It softens everything… the noise, the rush, even the sharp edges of thoughts. And then quietly, without asking permission, it brings people back. Not physically, but in echoes. A laugh you remember too clearly. A conversation that lingers like mist on a window. A presence that feels just close enough to reach, but not quite there.
Romanticizing rain isn’t really about the rain, is it? It’s about giving those feelings a place to sit. Letting longing feel beautiful instead of heavy. Turning missing someone into something almost… poetic.
Might I add, in this discussion of rain, that sometimes it can be likened to memory as well as love.
The clouds swell with their tons of water and they pour out like a nourishing blessing on a dry and weary land. Up springs the green grass and the trees strengthen and stand tall. Much like love in a dry and weary heart. Without asking, love pours into your life, sometimes, right when you believe you'll die of thirst.
And it pours into every corner and crevice of your being, causing you to realize just how dehydrated you once were.
Up springs new hopes, new found energy and zeal to live and maybe, this kind of selfless love is just what we all need. After all, "love is not giving someone what they deserve, love is giving someone what they need."
And just like we need rain, we need love❤️🌧️

You’ve turned rain into something sacred here 🌧️ Not just memory, but renewal… not just longing, but provision.
And maybe that’s why this resonates so much with me right now — it’s winter here in South Africa, and I find myself missing the rain more than usual.
It almost feels like missing a feeling as much as the rain itself.
